Gus Lloyd. Great morning show host, or the GREATEST?

While in-between jobs, I've been able to listen to Gus Lloyd more often each day. Gus amazes me. Gus is able to put on a morning show that both inspires AND entertains.

Sometimes I agree with Gus. Sometimes I think he goes over the top. But at the end of the day, I'm so happy to wake up to Seize the Day each morning. Gus's morning readings are a great way to start off the day, and the witty banter he has with his producer is really funny, especially when he fails at speaking German.

And Gus's stance on abortion is always spot on. The pro-life movement owes the strength of its credibility to people like Gus, who don't waver on their views. Gus shows compassion, but never compromises The Church's teaching on the subject.

All in all, we listeners at The Catholic Channel are very blessed to have Seize the Day each morning. Gus, you rock!

Learning from Gus

There's always room for improvement in all of us. Since nobody is perfect, it makes sense that people can always grow and improve.

That said, here is a list of things that Gus Lloyd does that we think Lino should try and do.

1. Be on the radio in the morning. You mean I only get Lino for three hours a day? Bologna! We deserve more Lino! Perhaps Lino could do the morning show in addition to the afternoon show every now and then! Who wouldn't want to wake up with a swarthy Italian man?

2. More Foo Fighters. Let's face it: The Foo Fighters might just be the greatest band ever. Three of its albums won Grammys, and every album they've released has been nominated for a Grammy. Pink Floyd and The Beatles can't say that! That said, there's only a few seconds of Foo Fighters music played after each break: Gus allows his music to play for 20-30 seconds. The Foos deserve more airplay.

3. Longer shows. While part of the show is taken up by Vatican News and Daily Mass, Gus is on the air for 3 hours and 15 minutes (approximately), while Lino only gets three hours. We believe that Lino should emulate Gus and give us 15 extra minutes of pure Catholic pleasure.

4. A producer with a cool accent. Gus has a producer named Emily with an awesome German accent. Maureen speaks boring american. We believe that Maureen should pick up a solid British or Aussie accent. That would be swell.

5. Do cool stuff on the weekends! Ever see Gus Lloyd's web site? He's got all of these scenic photos from trips he's taken. He goes on motorcycle trips. Writes a daily blog. Lino on the weekend? We have no idea what he does, but it darn sure isn't riding a Hog! We think Lino should have a more rollicking social life like Gus. We also think he should become a biker. The Catholic Biker: It's got a nice ring!

On a serious note, we would love for Lino to start his own blog. I think it would add great content to an already-amazing show, and would allow us to peer into his brain a little more often. He could keep us updated on all the projects he does, educate us a little more about the faith, and provide another form of entertainment.

Plus, have you seen THIS blog? It can't be that difficult to do, and for a talented guy like Lino, it should be a piece of cake.

Gus Lloyd declares Lino Rulli Day in cyberspace

I asked Gus Lloyd if he would like to contribute to a day in his honor (Lino's birthday). Gus was a great sport about the whole thing, and offered these kind words in honor of the other guy, Lino Rulli.

On this occasion of Lino's 12th birthday...Oh, wait, I'm sorry. That's just his maturity level. On this occasion of Lino's whatever number birthday it is...(I mean, does anyone really care except his mommy and daddy)...I, Gus Lloyd, do hereby declare it Lino Rulli Day in cyberspace. Therefore, the entire Internet shall be used to give due honor to the man credited with keeping the Catholic faith alive in North America today. Be it decreed, therefore, that everyone shall email all those in their contact directories, and post to all of their Facebook friends that, to honor Lino Rulli, they must listen to Seize the Day with Gus Lloyd on The Catholic Channel (Monday through Friday from 6-10 a.m. eastern). Thank you.

A Makeover for Lino's Birthday

Regular visitors to this blog (God bless you) will see a change today (Friday, Oct. 22). In honor of Lino Rulli's birthday (Oct. 26, but we're doing it today since he'll be gone to Italy on his actual birthday), what better way to celebrate this great man by honoring another great man?!

We've been counting down (missing a few days here and there) by taking the daily readings and applying them to Lino. At least one of those readings had to touch on the virtue of sharing, which is something we hope Lino will appreciate when he sees his fan club altered today. We promised something fun for Lino's birthday, and here we go!

Yes, for one day, the site dedicated to Lino Rulli gets dedicated to the morning man Gus Lloyd instead. Follow us all day for all things Gus (and a little Lino as well).

Heard on Gus Lloyd's show this morning

Gus: "Would you want your daughter to marry a Catholic guy -- I'm not talking about someone like Lino Rulli, who'd want to marry him? I'm talking about a Catholic Man. Yes, a Catholic Man. Would you want your daughter to marry a Catholic Man?"

Discuss.

how did Lino insult Gus today?

I missed that part of the show. What was said?

Poor Gus. Poor, poor, poor Gus.

Maybe Gus can forgive Lino. Maybe today Lino needed some Chipotle.
Or Lasagna.

Seize the Day is real!

Listeners of The Catholic Channel recognize Gus Lloyd's Seize the Day theme music instantly. They play it in the station bumpers, and Lino plays a short snippet of the song every now and then to make fun of Gus.

But if you thought this was a little jingle that Adam Hamway put together for the show, you're wrong.

It's a song from Carolyn Arends' 1995 album "I Can Hear You," produced by Brown Bannister, the producer for Rachael Lampa's albums (I throw in that nugget because I had the biggest crush on Lampa in high school, and still do). The single "Seize the Day" reached number 29 on the Canadian Adult Contemporary charts in 1997 (thank you Wikipedia).

So if you'd like to pretend to be Gus Lloyd, you can listen to this song whenver. The song wouldn't be so bad if I had never heard of Gus, but "God bless ya brother!" is the only thing running through my head when I listen to this.

Oh by the way, it's also available on iTunes. It's the most popular Arends song. Go figure.

Catholic Guy Grinch

The following is a clip about Lino Rulli I heard on some dog and pony show. I struggled with whether as a true Linofan I should post something that his archenemies produced. I justify it in the fact that this site is dedicated to all things Lino. Plus, I feel, most fans want to hear this type of fodder.

I found Gus's timing on this very interesting. Dropping this parody during the week that Lino is in Rome. Greatly diminishing Lino's chances at retaliation.

(I do appreciate the fact that I was able to not only illegal download the song but also borrow the Lino Grinch image that Gus took the time to photo shop.)
