Gianni Russo on Speak Now

posted by dustin (the Boston Celtics fan)

For those of you who do not listen to the best three hours of morning Radio, Speak Now with Dave and Susan Konig, Gianni Russo appeared on the show for a fantastic interview. Russo made it known that he attends daily mass, calling it "the best hour of his week."

Russo also talked about his work in the Godfather, mentioning how strange it was to be a 27-year-old guy getting makeup from four ladies at 6 a.m.

The interview was very rich, and warrants listening to again. Speak Now is replayed on the weekend, Saturdays from 1-4 p.m. eastern, and on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. eastern on The Catholic Channel, Sirius 159. I highly recommend tuning in: hopefully today's show is the one that gets replayed.

Lino on Speak Now

Lino Rulli appeared on Speak Now with Dave and Susan Konig (the best three hours of morning Radio) today, to discuss, among other things, his woes with the ladies.

"I have nothing else to say about Catholicism," Lino said when asked by Dave if he enjoyed talking about catholocism on the radio. "I ran out of things after the first three weeks...I just repeat things...It's like my dating life, Susan. I'm great right out of the gates, three or four dates, girls think I'm wonderful...then they break up with me," Lino said. "I have nothing new to offer, the same old nose jokes.

Lino also discussed confession, talking about saying his confession on the air yesterday (the confession in question was confessing to objectifying women).

"I like looking at people as objects," Lino confessed. "What can I get from them? Horrible life I live...Is that a mortal sin, is that a venial sin, who knows...I'm going just in case, to get it out of my conscience."

When asked about the changes to the personnel, Lino said that his demeanor might be at fault.

"I must be so miserable to work with, that they run out of the studio," Rulli said of the crew members Tom and Maureen leaving the show.

When asked if the show was going to change, Lino revealed a new format.

"Here's the new plan. We're going to hire two new people, and I'm going to start firing people," Lino said. "Every week there will be a new firing. I wanna be like, Lou is it your turn to get fired?" Rulli said that he couldn't do it this week because there was only one crew member.

Lino also got Dave four tickets to the Mets tonight, which was a nice gesture.

This marks the second week in a row in which a member of the crew from The Catholic Guy show appeared on Speak Now, with former producer Maureen appearing last week.

"Dave and Susan put on a great show, and your trying to ruin it intentionally!" Rulli said of producer Adam "Hammer" Hamway booking himself and Maureen last week.

Nice hour of radio. More on the afternoon show later today.

Maureen McMurray on 'Speak Now'

Producer Maureen McMurray, along with John Kennedy, the producer from 'Seize The Day' (Gus's dog-and-pony show), appeared on the best three hours of morning radio, Dave and Susan Konig's 'Speak Now.'

When asked about what she is going to be doing at NPR, McMurray revealed the type of show she'd be working on.

"I'm going to be producing a variety show. I'm really looking forward to it, no offense to anyone I've left behind."

After Susan asked about people's reaction to McMurray leaving, Maureen said that people had a positive attitude, joking with her about leaving. But when it came to their sadness about McMurray being gone, she stated that nobody would care.

"Honestly, they're going to forget in a week...We've had people come and go on the show before, and nobody cares," a laughing McMurray said.

Dave played a great clip, featuring Maureen, about giving Wedding vows. I wasn't able to catch more specifics (I've got no pause or rewind button on my Sirius), but the clip had Maureen reading these extremely sappy, pseudo-meaningful wedding vows to the groom. The groom replied with something short and sweet, which prompted outrage from McMurray, who yelled "That's a hallmark card! I stayed up all night writing this f****** thing."

Classic.

Playing off of Gus's reading of Pope Benedict's homily earlier this year, audio of "Gus Loyd " (I think it was Dave doing a great impression) reading the lyrics from "Be Our Guest" from Beauty in the Beast made an appearance. I seriously hope that Lino replays the segment, as hearing a mock Gus Loyd recite Disney lyrics makes for quality radio.

McMurray did give a final sendoff to listeners, which was very sweet and touching.

"I have two things. One I want to say ... I really did learn a tremendous amount of Catholicism. I got to go to the Vatican with Lino, and it was incredible. In terms of listeners on our show ... that is probably one of the saddest things about leaving. I'm really going to miss the listeners alot."

Before McMurray's appearance, Susan Konig talked about the worst send-off (The Washington Post giving the best send-off) after leaving a job. At Seventeen magazine, Konig was taken out for coffee, and told that her position was being eliminated. On her last day, Konig said that the editor-in-chief actually called her in the office, and told her that she was a 'bad writer' (not true).

"She decided to knock me down a few pegs," Konig recalled. "... I said to her, 'If I'm such a bad writer, I'm going to take all the writing for the next issue with me." Konig did say that the security guard, Stitch, that removed her from the building seemed a little sad. An older man, he showed great remorse in having to remove Susan from the job.
