Countdown to Glory - 18 days

With 18 days until The Predicament turns 39, we thought we'd start a countdown of sorts (what happened to our countdown this weekend? The goal? Take each day's readings and find a way to apply one of the passages to the life of Lino Rulli. And then, we have something VERY special waiting for Lino on October 26...and no, it won't require a restraining order. Yes, we would have done a 39-day countdown since he'll turn 39, but we're not paid for this, and as such, we show signs of laziness now and then, much to our amusement Lino's annoyance. Enjoy!


Lk 11:15-26

When Jesus had driven out a demon, some of the crowd said:
“By the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons,
he drives out demons.”
Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven.
But he knew their thoughts and said to them,
“Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste
and house will fall against house.
And if Satan is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand?
For you say that it is by Beelzebul that I drive out demons.
If I, then, drive out demons by Beelzebul,
by whom do your own people drive them out?
Therefore they will be your judges.
But if it is by the finger of God that I drive out demons,
then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.
When a strong man fully armed guards his palace,
his possessions are safe.
But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him,
he takes away the armor on which he relied
and distributes the spoils.
Whoever is not with me is against me,
and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
“When an unclean spirit goes out of someone,
it roams through arid regions searching for rest
but, finding none, it says,
‘I shall return to my home from which I came.’
But upon returning, it finds it swept clean and put in order.
Then it goes and brings back seven other spirits
more wicked than itself who move in and dwell there,
and the last condition of that man is worse than the first.”

Jesus is being falsely accused of performing his miracles through the power of Satan. He is easily able to refute those idiots by explaining that a house divided will not stand, then makes the claim that if you aren't with him, you're against him.

This passage of scripture reminds me of the people who accuse Lino's show of being too crass, not Catholic enough, and too much like Howard Stern (I didn't realize being entertaining like Howard was a sin, but whatever). Lino, Lou and Maureen try their hardest each day to put out a good quality Catholic radio show. And for people to accuse it of not being Catholic enough, well, they remind me of those idiots 2,000 years ago.

Criticism is ok. Well thought out differences of opinion, nothing wrong with that. But when you openly rebuke something for not being faithful enough to Church teachings without any evidence to back it up, any shred of credibility, then my friend you are in the wrong. We should support others in the Faith who are trying hard to glorify God. Not tear them down. Because if we are divided, we'll surely fail.
