New producer, new pilgrimage, new news

What a crazy week on The Catholic Guy Show! To recap:

- Lino and Fr. Rob get a new producer named Scott, who is married with two kiddos, according to our friends at twitter.com/linorullidotnet. Work has been nutso busy this week, so I haven't got a chance to hear much of Scott, except for yesterday when Fr. Rob was "lashing out" at him for asking a more educated question than the priest did (Which Wine Bar did you go to, as opposed to Fr. Rob asking if Lino went to McDonalds on a date).

Scott has prior radio experience, which should certainly help him keep up with Lino and Fr. Rob. Scott, we pray for your sanity and wish you the best!

- Fr. Jim Chern is going on a pilgrimage...we think. Fr. Jim is adamant that he's going, but Fr. Rob and Lino have a side bet they made on-air Monday where Fr. Rob gets $100 or so if Fr. Jim drops out. Personally, I think a bet like that is ridiculous and just makes everyone look mean, so I really hope Fr. Jim goes on the trip. It will be good for Fr. Jim and the listeners to hang out for a week.

You can find out more about the pilgrimage at www.catholictraveler.com.

We should be thankful that God has allowed Fr. Jim to go in the pilgrimage. Being the chaplain on a college campus is probably one of the more time-consuming jobs a priest can have, especially when you're the only one. The kids need Fr. Jim more than radio show listeners, and the fact that he is so devoted to them speaks volumes about the integrity he has.

- As far as other news goes, it's about time for our annual predictions for 2012! Over the next few days, we'll recap what we got right and wrong in 2011, and we'll offer some predictions for 2012. It should hopefully be a good year, and I pray to God we don't lose any other staff members!

Predicting 2011, part two

Yesterday, we brought you our grades for our 2010 predictions. We did ok. Could be better though. But how do you predict a show as unpredictable as The Catholic Guy?

Here are a list of predictions for 2011. Three for Lino, Lou and Maureen individually, and three for the show itself. We might even throw Fr. Jim and Fr. Rob a bone.

Lou Ruggieri
1. The Assistant producer title is dropped, and Lou becomes co-producer with Maureen.
2. After years of waiting, Lou will get married by the end of the year.
3. Lou will get 1,000 friends on Facebook. And he'll join Twitter.

Maureen McMurray
1. Maureen will start down the path of confirmation.
2. Maureen will book a guest that becomes a show regular.
3. Maureen and her husband Danny will conceive a child.

Lino Rulli
1. Lino's autobiography will crack the top 50 best-selling NY Times list.
2. Lino will dabble in TV work, and be featured in a program that can be seen nationally
3. Even if its not discussed on air, Lino will become engaged.

Fr. Jim
1. Fr. Jim will never, ever defeat Lino in Who's More Catholic
2. Fr. Jim will travel by train to Pennsylvania to officiate dustin and allicia's wedding mass

Fr. Rob
1. Fr. Rob will bring alcohol to the studio at some point this year. Drinking with a priest on-air will ensue.
2. Fr. Rob will attend dustin and allicia's wedding reception and be forced to do hulkamania impressions.

The Catholic Guy Show
1. The show will broadcast on location to a west coast city for a week.
2. The show will not add a new everyday on-air personality
3. The show will get a two-year renewal, due to Lino's engagement.

Predicting 2011, part one

With Christmas fast approaching, it's time for our annual predictions column. We here at catholicguyshow.com have a slew of predictions for the upcoming year. This year, we'll be making three predictions about Lino, Lou, Maureen, and the show itself. Today, we are posting our results for last year's picks. On Tuesday, we'll have the new picks.

1. Nobody will quit the show. Nobody quit. Nobody came close to quitting. We nailed this one.

2. A new cast member will appear. That didn't happen. Perhaps they didn't want to ruin the chemistry between Lino, Lou and Maureen.

3. Lino will end the year single. Sadly we got this one right, although Lino has been doing a lot of dating. Perhaps he's keeping is private life under tabs and we're really just wrong.

4. The Rome trip will be so good that Lino will plan more trips. I think we knocked this prediction out of the park. Last year's Rome shows were great. And Lino did plan more trips: he did a pilgrimage with audience members.

5. An earthshaking event will happen that will get him pondering the future. We're iffy on this one. He is writing a new book, and I guess, if we stretched a bit, that we could call this an earthshaking event for him, given his hesitation for writing his autobiography

6. TCGS will start doing live shows with audience members. Lino did have three fans in studio (myself, my future bride Allicia, and Heather, who ended up winning the title of Lino's Biggest Fan). But as far as doing shows where people can come in and watch, that hasn't materialized yet. I still think it would be a great way to give back to charity.

7. Lou will get engaged. Even though Lou keeps his private life away from the listeners, if this happened to Lou there is no way it wouldn't get mentioned. However, there's no mention of Lou going through tough romantic times, so we can safely assume all is going well. We missed this one.

8. Lino will go to bed at night....and wake up in the morning. Yep, a gimmie.

So we got five out of eight right, with two being spot-on predictions, and the other three being iffy. Look for our 12-or-so predictions on Tuesday morning.

Grading 2009 predictions

If you were reading this blog around a year ago, you saw this post, "Looking Ahead to 2009"

We don't have any predictions for 2010 yet, but with the new year just 25 days away, I'd say it is close enough to check our facts and see what we got right, and what we got horribly wrong.

• Lino and the girlfriend will stay together, and their relationship will really grow and flourish under God's guidance. There will still be the occasional fight, including one that Lino will mention on air that "could" end the relationship. But that won't happen.

What really happened? Lino and the girlfriend split up. He even found another woman at the Catholic Singles Conference this summer in California, but that one ended up going the way of the dodo. Our man is still single for now.

• Lou will get a sweet guitar gig. Lou plays the guitar, but we've never heard a sample of his work. I predict that sometime in 2009, someone will pay Lou real money to play guitar at a club or something similiar.

What really happened? We heard nothing of Lou's guitar playing. The closest we came to hearing a member of the crew demonstrate their musical talents was Maureen playing the Yukalaylee for Lino on his birthday, a moment I think was one of the most underrated comic moments of the year.

• Christine will get a boyfriend this year. We try to refrain from talking about Christine, due to the fact that this blog is run by a handful of dudes who sound creepy speculating on the life and times of Christine Lloyd. But I predict that Christine will find romance this year, and that we'll hear entertaining stories about it on the air.

What really happened? Christine's personal life stayed off the air until she left. We're really sucking at these predictions.

• Producer Jared Rizzi will take the show into uncharted territory as far as success is concerned. However, tragedy will strike when Notre Dame loses all of its games, causing him to actually miss two days of work due to the pain and sickness it brings.

What really happened? Glad we left that statement about uncharted territory ambiguous. We'll leave it at that. He left before Notre Dame's schedule got under way, but Notre Dame did come close to losing all of its games. 6-6, but it was painful and sickening enough to get Charlie Weiss canned.

• One member of the show will quit before 2010.

What really happened? We nailed this one. Two people left: Christine at the start of the summer, and the former producer at the end of it.

• We will see a 7-0 Fr. Jim victory over Lino in Who's More Catholic.

What really happened? We never got close, as the good Father never sniffed 6-1. The segment was put to rest for a while as well.

• Lino will get that tattoo of John Paul II's crest.

What really happened? No tattoo yet, although there is still hope for this one in 2010.

• Lino will be invited to Maureen's wedding, and the stories will be infinite in greatness.

What really happened? We nailed this one as well. Lino did go to the wedding. Lou was invited, but was unable to attend.

• This show will be better than ever in 2009.

What really happened? Maureen returned. That far surpassed any of my expectations for the show, which truly became better than ever.

Looking ahead to 2009

With a solid 2008 behind us, we look ahead to 2009.

I have a few predictions for the show. I'm sure other members of this blog will post with their five predictions, but for now, these are my own.

In 2009...
• Lino and the girlfriend will stay together, and their relationship will really grow and flourish under God's guidance. There will still be the occasional fight, including one that Lino will mention on air that "could" end the relationship. But that won't happenn.
