A look ahead

After last week's callous events, what do we have to look forward to this week?

• Assuming Lino works on Monday, after being at the New Media Conference this weekend, we can expect to hear about the trip, what he spoke about, and so forth.

•Lino missed last week's appointment with Dr. Pazzo. Will he make it this week, or will it be two weeks straight without an appointment with his therapist?

• After fan's cries, will "Let's Make a Catholic Deal" get any shorter?

• And finally, after blowing us off on Friday after the famous "walkout," will we finally get a legitmate apology?

It's holiness through randomness! The Catholic Guy with Lino Rull starts in less than three hours.

5-29 show review

Personal stories are fun. But Lino's opener was dirty! The man ran out of soap earlier today, and had to clean his stench of a body with shampoo.

Creepy, as the Simon Cowell voice chimes.

Why he couldn't use use liquid dish soap is beyond me, but that's how we opened today's show. Even more disturbing was the woman who called and said she gave up shaving her legs for LintLent.

Are you nuts? Lady, if you are reading this, pretty much every guy listening to the show wanted to run straight for the bathroom with a sick stomach. No way should any woman give up shaving her legs for LintLent. I feel for her husband (no word on if she is married, but I am assuming she is).

Such a wonderful way to kick off the show...and I was busy eating an apple at the time. So my day was shot!

The rest of the show was the usual fun banter. The questions were very easy during Lets Make A Catholic Deal (which still has the best music of any segment on the show), so not a lot of wrong answers. For those of us at work, who are unable to call, this was a let down...it's fun to be challenged by the segment.

Good Thursday show, especially the caller named Tom who whined about staying on hold, who got put back on hold for his evil transgressions. What a lousy man! Sorry, I'm still bitter about the bad images that got put in my head by the woman who didn't shave her legs for Lint.

Hopefully we won't get anything gross in tomorrow's show.

HERESY!!!!

No, there was not any heresy on today's show, but I can picture the "Catholic Taliban," as Lino describes them, going nutty over Lino talking about not wanting to go to Mass all the time, and sometimes "hating" going to confession. It's not something you would normally hear on normal religious radio, but then again, this isn't your normal catholic radio: this is edifying, honest quality programming on a channel that has blessed my life more than I can ever describe.

Lino was able to take something like running, which he is not a fan of, and give it a theological spin: sometimes we do HATE going to church, talking to God, studying scripture, and so forth...but we do it anyways, because it's a sign of obedience and love for Christ. The honesty that Lino gives us, actually admitting what all of us know and struggle with, on a religious radio station is something that should be the rule, not the exception.

It was illustrated when a personal trainer (who was a joy to listen to: I wish she would call in more often) called the show, telling him that she couldn't believe that this show was on The Catholic Channel when she first listened to, because of the laughter and "shooting the bull." Lino asked the obvious question: why don't we call out the "boring" catholic radio and criticize them for not being funny, for not being entertaining, which would draw more people into conversation about the faith. The personal trainer, who told Lino that he needed more structure and discipline in his life, said that she looks forward to the show every day.

Once again, the crew was kind enough to plug the blog. Much appreciation for that one, although we were commanded by the under-appreciated Lou to keep the criticism to a minimum. Which, of course, motivates me to find something to criticize.

So what do I dislike? Not enough Gus Loyd! Hopefully the crew will get some more sound bites of the morning guy soon. Anytime Gus Loyd pops up on the show puts a smile on my face.

And for the rest of the show, we had "Let's Make A Catholic Deal." I can't believe people miss the some of the Bible trivia questions. I mean really, who doesn't know that Jonah was in the belly of a fish for three days? If I didn't have the busiest day of work on Thursday, I'd call in and win that Pope Bottle Opener easily.

I hear a sick day calling.

The Thursday show and our new address!

No running diary today (we save those for big events).

I thought Lou and Lino—the True Crew as Doug in Kansas so eloquently stated—did a pretty good job today. Although Lino, not writing to that child that you sponsor is pretty heartless: you should definitely devote some of Friday to doing so. Although, who am I to criticize? I don't even sponsor a child..so maybe I should shut my yap and be a man of action first.

At any rate, I think Rulli will write back.

I always enjoy Lets Make A Catholic Deal...the cheesy music, and wondering if people will get Haterade behind door number two is just fun to listen to.

Also, per Lino's criticisms today (he was extremely hard to please!), our blog's URL was too complicated for you to reach. Therefore, we've given it a domain name, as you can probably tell from the header. It's www.catholicguyshow.com. You can continue to access it via catholicguyshow.blogspot.com, but I have to agree, catholicguyshow.com is much easier to remember. There's also the email address, cath...@yahoo.com . Click on the ... to see the full address (this prevents spam)

These improvements will hopefully make this blog run smoothly.

It's off to bed for me, as I ponder whether or not any woman would ever let me name our daughter "Pink Floyd Faber." C'mon, it's got a nice flow to it, right? First I need to get a date, and judging by the fact the face I see in the mirror, that could take a while.

Also, Lino has the day off Friday so they are replaying Maureen's final show, all three hours of fun!. For fun, follow along our diary and let us know how if we came close to emulating the excitement!

Take care. We'll see you later today.
