Out of commission

Due to unforseen billing issues with the net at home, I won't be able to post to the blog until Friday, save for the times I'm at work. I could do it from my Wii from the wireless signal I'm able to mooch from the neighbors, but then I'm not able to put pictures in the posts, and then the blog wouldn't look as nice.

SO, I'm counting on Doug in Kansas, Dan, and Father Chern to pick up my slack! As far as today's show was concerned, I did miss Lou, but it was a fun breath of fresh air to have Adam 'Hammer' Hamway filling in. The discussion over Lino's date was a fun one: Hammer introduced Lino to one of his single lady friends, and Lino had to blow the age difference out of proportion like his is usually bound to do (find fault in the good things God gives him, that is). She's 23, he's a young 36, and he went crazy over it!

I hope that he doesn't screw things up: I'd love for Lino to have a great date and be happy outside of work for a change.
See you on Friday!

5-29 show review

Personal stories are fun. But Lino's opener was dirty! The man ran out of soap earlier today, and had to clean his stench of a body with shampoo.

Creepy, as the Simon Cowell voice chimes.

Why he couldn't use use liquid dish soap is beyond me, but that's how we opened today's show. Even more disturbing was the woman who called and said she gave up shaving her legs for LintLent.

Are you nuts? Lady, if you are reading this, pretty much every guy listening to the show wanted to run straight for the bathroom with a sick stomach. No way should any woman give up shaving her legs for LintLent. I feel for her husband (no word on if she is married, but I am assuming she is).

Such a wonderful way to kick off the show...and I was busy eating an apple at the time. So my day was shot!

The rest of the show was the usual fun banter. The questions were very easy during Lets Make A Catholic Deal (which still has the best music of any segment on the show), so not a lot of wrong answers. For those of us at work, who are unable to call, this was a let down...it's fun to be challenged by the segment.

Good Thursday show, especially the caller named Tom who whined about staying on hold, who got put back on hold for his evil transgressions. What a lousy man! Sorry, I'm still bitter about the bad images that got put in my head by the woman who didn't shave her legs for Lint.

Hopefully we won't get anything gross in tomorrow's show.

Show review 5-28

by dustin (The Boston Celtics fan)

This post is destroying Doug's symbolism, yes, but it had to be done eventually. And if you get a chance, watch the video, "The devil don't like Channel 159" in the earlier post. Great video!

I thought today's show was good. So good that I fell asleep during the third hour!

Yep, I missed it, and am listening to the replay to catch up. Some quick highlights of the show for you:

• Lino has a brain and Lou does not. Why? Lou is doing something so stupid, words cannot describe his lack of common sense and decision-making. Lou thinks the Celtics will NOT win the NBA championship.

Dumb pick, Lou. Just a bad assumption all around! The Celtics will win the Finals, defeating the Lakers just like the good old days. Mark these words!

I felt for Lino during the first hour of the show. He told the listeners about his evening at Old Chicago, eating alone on a Saturday night. Then, these bratty kids start throwing food at him. And instead of correcting the kids, the parents did nothing. So Lino had a bad dinner on top of a terrible evening, thanks to undisciplined children and apathetic parents.

Lino, I know it's tough to stand up to people (I understand a lot of people can be unsettled when it comes to telling parents to keep their kids in check), but when someone's children are ruining your evening, you've got to stand up and put your foot down. You aren't being rude, rather, if you inform a parent that their children are acting unruly and ass-like, you might prevent some real embarrassment for them down the road (they can correct the problem before the kids act even worse in the future).

The whole story got me thinking though, and I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this, but Lino talks about being alone on Saturday. Going to eat by himself. True, New York City is a huge place to be, but Lino is bound to have fans that will recognize him in public. I wonder how many times a fan sees him and comes up to talk to him. I'll bet that he doesn't eat alone that often: if I saw him at Old Chicago that night, I'd definitely order a round of Samuel Adams for the two of us. And I know I can't be the only one who would make that purchase.

The other thing that caught my ear in this show was Lino talking about a book deal. I wish I would have called and told them my thoughts, but I think Lino should do the book, but for each chapter or topic, have Lou give his thoughts in a "sidebar." I think Lino writing a book with Lou would be a wonderful read.

Good show. Witty banter all around. We'll hopefully recover from Memorial Day to keep the blog churning and updated more often that it has been in the next few days!

5.15.08 show

HERESY!!!!

No, there was not any heresy on today's show, but I can picture the "Catholic Taliban," as Lino describes them, going nutty over Lino talking about not wanting to go to Mass all the time, and sometimes "hating" going to confession. It's not something you would normally hear on normal religious radio, but then again, this isn't your normal catholic radio: this is edifying, honest quality programming on a channel that has blessed my life more than I can ever describe.

Lino was able to take something like running, which he is not a fan of, and give it a theological spin: sometimes we do HATE going to church, talking to God, studying scripture, and so forth...but we do it anyways, because it's a sign of obedience and love for Christ. The honesty that Lino gives us, actually admitting what all of us know and struggle with, on a religious radio station is something that should be the rule, not the exception.

It was illustrated when a personal trainer (who was a joy to listen to: I wish she would call in more often) called the show, telling him that she couldn't believe that this show was on The Catholic Channel when she first listened to, because of the laughter and "shooting the bull." Lino asked the obvious question: why don't we call out the "boring" catholic radio and criticize them for not being funny, for not being entertaining, which would draw more people into conversation about the faith. The personal trainer, who told Lino that he needed more structure and discipline in his life, said that she looks forward to the show every day.

Once again, the crew was kind enough to plug the blog. Much appreciation for that one, although we were commanded by the under-appreciated Lou to keep the criticism to a minimum. Which, of course, motivates me to find something to criticize.

So what do I dislike? Not enough Gus Loyd! Hopefully the crew will get some more sound bites of the morning guy soon. Anytime Gus Loyd pops up on the show puts a smile on my face.

And for the rest of the show, we had "Let's Make A Catholic Deal." I can't believe people miss the some of the Bible trivia questions. I mean really, who doesn't know that Jonah was in the belly of a fish for three days? If I didn't have the busiest day of work on Thursday, I'd call in and win that Pope Bottle Opener easily.

I hear a sick day calling.
