To all the Facebook Lino Fans

We will be CLOSING The Lino Fans Facebook PAGE on August 1st.

Facebook made it easier for Lino to manage his own fan page. Lino has been very generous with responding and therefore alleviating the need for a 3rd party (however unofficial we are) to help manage questions and requests about the show. We have made the executive decision to close the page and direct all you loyal Linoans to his facebook page www.facebook.com/linorulli

This should not be a big shock, since we have been offering the page to Lino since it started. We are thrilled to be involved with the Lino Rulli Fandom and will continue to offer content on the blog at www.catholicguyshow.com.

Dear Lino,

Your increased facebook activity has me excited and concerned. I have a few theories why it has happened...


1. After resigning your online dating to Lou and Maureen you have a lot more free time.
2. After hiring a cleaning lady you have a lot more free time.
3. Your spiritual director finally got it through that all this one sided affection from your fans is unhealthy for your pride and encouraged you to become more engaged bringing you down to a reasonable level of bloated self worth.
4. You got bored and figured facebook was just sitting there why not get into the action.
5. You realized that by responding and becoming engaged in the conversation your fans would be more adoring and therefore build up your inflated sense of self.
I am incredibly happy you have gotten in on the action. After all, we enjoy your witty banter and getting a little on facebook just makes us want it more ;)
I don't want it to stop; I just want you to know we’ve noticed.

I called into the yesterday in the Random Acts of Thankfulness segment. The conversation turned to SMS messages from Facebook. If you're a Facebook user, you can choose to have friends' status updates sent to your cell. I do this for Lino and several others.

Our own Dan Sealana talked about this on his own Facebook recently. Mocking himself for having friends from his virtual world send him all these text messages. It's great to do if you have an unimited messaging package. I like to do this at work, during lunch and at the end of the day. All those beeps with messages from Lino and all my friends!

It's a great way of wading through all those Farmville posts I get from my sister :)

It's very close to three years ago that The Catholic Channel started on Sirius 159. One thing that Lino did very early was to make himself available on email lino@thecatholicchannel.org, as well as on Social Networking, mainly on My Space.

I did sign up as one of his friends on My Space; I was one of the original 13 (put me on a flag.) These were the days before Facebook and Twitter got so popular! Lino quickly accumulated many friends, Discerning Dan started an Unofficial Fan Club for Lino, among others.

This led to me, and others, making new friends that I might not have otherwise met. And we found other interests that drew us together; for example, I met Kate, who also loves Vera Bradley pocketbooks ;) Now I know some of the guys are shaking their heads at this, but at the same time, it makes it much more fun to get to know the other listeners.

May the next three years, and many others, bring us more fun, fellowship, and learning and loving our Catholic Faith.

Update @ 1:45 PM PT --> The inmates are running the asylum!! :) Jared is talking happily!! Lou is very manly!! Christine is still... quiet.

1:57 PM PT: Greg --> "We're hosting this April Fool's hoo-hah!" Hey-o!

They also tried out WAM -- "Willits Against MINT!" Towards the end of the show, Greg & Jennifer ultimately got the hang of mocking Jared, even making the statement that Jared & Adam (the Willits' morning producer) came from the same school of (non-)producing. Hahahaha!

I think they finally decided on "WAM," but they have several factors going against them:

• MINT! was a grassroots movement;
• MINT! wasn't forced on anyone;
• WAM makes me think of WHAM! which makes me think of George Michael (Hey-o!);
• MINT! was resurrected by a three-time Emmy award winning single dude. WAM! was coined by a non-Emmy award winning Catholic parents of five and a regularly mocked non-Subway spokesman.

WAM is DOA. QED.

(Lino is cool. Greg reads comic books. Jennifer married Greg. Jared is Jared. QED.)

If you keep up with the Twitter account, you got a message late last night saying that we were going to start giving away "Rulli" awards.

For anyone who does not pay attention to the Twitter feed, the premise is simple. Each day, we'll scour Lino's Facebook page for a witty, insightful, positive or just plain creative comment left on his wall. Since he has more than 1400 friends, it should be easy to do. Then we'll send out a Twitter alert announcing who won the day's Rulli, and do our best to shrink the comment into the Twitter-friendly 140 characters for mass publication.

Who knows, maybe we'll come up with a monthly and yearly award too. I think it'd be fun to give some creative minds some recognition.
